Dr. Krishna Kaphle
The Associated of Faculties of the Universities of Maine (AFUM) are saddened by the sudden passing of Dr. Krishna Kaphle on October 23, 2025. A beloved and dedicated Professor of Mathematics at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, Krishna will be missed deeply by his family, his community, his Fort Kent colleagues and students and by his AFUM colleagues.
Krishna was a valued and steadfast member of the AFUM Executive Board. We were privileged to have him serve as our statewide treasurer, an essential role he capably assumed when asked. He performed this task with absolute reliability, meticulousness, and always with a gentle humor that we deeply appreciated.
His commitment to the welfare and rights of his fellow faculty members across the University of Maine System was evident in every facet of his service. His conscientiousness shone through in everything from his monthly financial reports, to his work on our Negotiating Team, to his regular, active presence on the MEA BIPOC Committee and at our annual Maine Education Association Representative Assembly.
The UMFK campus and the entire University of Maine System community have lost a devoted educator and advocate. We are profoundly grateful for the time and energy he dedicated to ensuring a strong future for the faculty he represented.
Krishna’s service and generosity of spirit were an inspiration to his colleagues, and we will greatly miss him.
